Hendry/Taylor Residence

The design incorporated solar passive design principals including:

  • Reverse brick veneer external walls for thermal efficiency with thermal mass (brickwork) insulated externally.
  • Uncovered and edge insulated concrete floor slabs used for thermal mass to moderate internal temperature in summer and winter.
  • Ample north facing glass to capture the sun heating rays in winter and a deep eave overhang to shelter the glazing in summer.
  • A second ‘fly roof’ with ventilation space between the main roof that stops heat being directly transferred to the interior of the house.
  • Double glazed timber windows and doors prevent heat loss through both the glass and the frames.
