Sustainable and Affordable Housing Competition

Sustainability
The design addresses the issues of global climate change and fossil fuel dependency, by reducing energy and water consumption, and allowing the occupants to harvest roof water, some food and capture solar radiation. The design uses construction materials with low embodied energy long term and materials which can be reused and recycled. The house incorporates technology currently available at an affordable price to make the proposal feasible and affordable for construction immediately. The materials are selected on a lifecycle basis, considering environmental impacts during procurement, production and use.
